Fagg's Mitre 10 is a long standing family business which has been serving the Geelong region since 1854.
Over 200 people attended the Official Opening of the extended and renovated Fagg’s Mitre 10 trade & retail complex at 1 – 9 Barwon Terrace, South Geelong on September 7, 2011.
This project has brought all Fagg’s Mitre 10 hardware, garden, timber & building materials operations at South Geelong under one roof, with 13,500 sqm metres of space. The complex is located immediately behind Fagg’s previous Moorabool Street hardware store.
The new complex makes it very easy for customers to access all parts of our business. It is all on one level and is a true ‘one stop’ centre. Everything we have done is geared to serving our customers better.
The architect was Peter O’Reilly & Associates and the building contractor was Lyons Constructions. The $7.5 million project commenced in June, 2010 and the complex has progressively opened for trading over the past six months as different parts of the building were completed.
- Major features of the new Fagg’s Mitre 10 complex include:
- A new 3,300sqm extension to the existing timber centre.
- New timber racking & shop fittings.
- Upgraded computer paint tinting and colour matching capacity,
- A new home finishing section, with extensive door and flooring displays,
- New external & internal signage, embracing the new Mitre 10 corporate livery.
- New wood working machinery,
- Environmental measures incl. rainwater tanks for the plant nursery, extensive skylighting, and bike racks for customers & staff.
- A new mezzanine level with staff facilities, training rooms and administration offices.
- The South Geelong Licenced Post Office.
The Fagg’s previous hardware store on Moorabool Street has been leased on a long term basis to E&S Trading, who are now fitting-out a major new appliance, kitchen & bathroom showroom which will open in early October.
Chairman of the Fagg Bros. Board, Mr. Bert Fagg, officially opened the complex. A third generation member of the Fagg family, Mr. Fagg worked for the business for 67 until his retirement in 1999. .
Fagg’s is the eighth oldest family business in Australia and has been trading continuously in Geelong since l854. It is still owned and managed by direct descendants of the founders, brothers Samuel and William Fagg. The business trade from three sites in the Geelong region and employs 210 staff.
To continue the opening celebrations, a major Grand Opening Sale will be held on the weekend of September 17th & 18th.
